KitchenAid Refrigerator Freezer Drawer Is Hard to Open
If your KitchenAid refrigerator freezer drawer is hard to open, it’s often due to ice buildup or misaligned drawer components. Over time, frost or condensation can accumulate along the drawer rails, creating resistance when opening the drawer. Also, ensure the drawer is properly aligned, as even a slight misalignment can make it hard to open.
Problem: The Kitchen Aid refrigerator’s freezer drawer appears to bind when it is halfway open or closed.
Cause: This issue may arise because the slides’ width is narrower than the basket’s width.
Correction: Use the tolerance in the slide bracket and drawer holes to aid in relaxing the bind.
- Turn Off the Refrigerator.
- Remove the basket/door assembly from the refrigerator by removing the four 5/16″ screws first.
- Cycle the slides individually to confirm that the slide itself has not failed.
- Proceed to loosen the four 3/8″ bolts,, attaching the slide bracket to the cabinet on each side.
- Push and hold each slide towards the wall and retighten the bolts.
- When reinstalling the basket/door assembly to the slides, get all 4 5/16″ screws started, then as tightening them down, lift on the basket.
- Turn on the refrigerator.
