Electrical Hazard Icon Warning:  Electrical Shock Hazard. Disconnect the power before cleaning. Failure to do so can result in death or electrical shock.

Before start cleaning your vent hood, turn off the power completely to avoid electrical hazards. Disconnect the vent hood from its power source by unplugging it or turning off the circuit breaker. Always prioritize safety when working near electrical components.

Preparation

Cleaning your vent hood begins with some preparation. First, turn off the vent hood and make sure the stove underneath is not on and cool. Collect your supplies: a degreaser or dish soap, warm water, a soft cloth, a scrub brush, etc. Cover and protect the area around the stove with old towels to catch any dripping grease.
Next, remove the vent hood filters, which accumulate the most grease. Soak the filter in warm, soapy water or a degreaser solution for about 15 minutes. This helps to loosen the grease and grime, making it easier to scrub later. While the filter is soaking, you can clean the exterior surfaces of the vent hood.

Cleaning of the exterior and the interior surfaces

To clean the exterior of the vent hood, spray the greasy spots with a degreaser or soapy water. Use a soft cloth or sponge to wipe away the dirt, moving in circular motions for better results. Avoid using abrasive scrubbers, as they can scratch the surface.
For the interior, carefully clean the inside surfaces, taking care of the fan and electrical components. Do not spray electrical components and parts. If grease has accumulated in the corners, use a soft toothbrush or small brush to reach these areas. After cleaning, wipe everything down with a damp cloth and dry it with a clean towel to prevent spots.

Finishing and reinstalling the filters

Remove the filter from the soaking solution and gently scrub it with a brush to eliminate any remaining grease. Rinse it thoroughly under warm water to wash away soap and debris. Allow the filter to air dry completely before reattaching it to the vent hood. Regular cleaning every 2 to 4 weeks helps maintain the filter’s functionality and prevents grease buildup. Once the filter is reinstalled, inspect the vent hood to ensure that no spots are missed. With consistent care, your vent hood will remain efficient, reduce odors, and improve air quality in your kitchen.
