F78 is circulation pump error. Most likely you will need a new one if the trick with the hot water does not help.

    Problem solved!
Thank you for the hot water tip. I had to try it four times, and on the final attempt I used water from the kettle just boiled and filled the whole sump.
I had been away for a month and it seems something in the circulation pump had set hard.

Thanks so much !!!! Problem solved!!!
But why we have to adding the hot water ? Is to help the pump heat up or another reason…. will I need to put hot water inside every day?

No, just temporally to loosen up the pump seal.

Thank you so much. It took three attempts and 1.5L of kettle boiled water each time but this cleared the fault. We never use the intense setting in order to be environmentally friendly but I did put it onto intense to get some really hot water through the system and all is well!
    Great advice.

I am getting the F78 error on a Miele Jubilee SC dishwasher. However, the pump blades that are visible when you remove the one way valve do spin. If I take out the filter and the one way valve assembly and open the dishwasher quickly, I can see the rotor spinning.

I have tried the hot water several times and have left the machine turned off for several minutes. We live in Samoa in the South Pacific and the electricity here is very erratic. What do you suggest now?

Hey I can’t thank this post enough. After the 3rd try with hot water and soap, my circulation pump is working again and F78 went away! We usually don’t use the dishwasher often since its only the two of us (probably once every 3 months).

Addendum to my earlier comment. After a successful resumption of functionality after performing this, our dishwasher failed again a few days later with the same error. We had a visit from a Miele repair person (not a contractor) and he claimed that our pump needed replacement, and it would cost ~$750. We declined – that’s half the cost of a brand new machine. With nothing to lose, we put boiling vinegar in the drain pan. Dishwasher has been working for two weeks now.
