If you experience problem with a Miele dishwasher, many of those problems may be resolved by yourself without the need for a technician. Manufacturer suggests you to conduct a series of troubleshooting procedures in attempt to solve minor problems before you spend money by calling out a service repair technician. The troubleshooting steps are relatively simple.  

1. Look for the error message. The “Intake/Drain” indicator light flashes when Miele dishwasher has a problem. That does not necessary mean that something is wrong with the intake or drain. I means that program is interrupted because there is the problem with the unit. Some models with the digital display will show the error code but on all other models you need to perform diagnostics in order to read the error.
2. Not draining or slow drain. If your Miele dishwasher is not draining, clean the triple filter, air gap and non-return valve. Examine the drain hose for clogs or kinks. 
3. Not filling with water. In most cases the the restrictor filter inside the water proof system valve is plugged and needs to be cleaned. It is possible that the water proof system is also defective and needs to be replaced.
